Third Eye Chakra: 101

Third Eye Chakra: 101

The sixth chakra – also known as the brow chakra, the Third Eye chakra, the inner eye, or “Ajna” in Sanskrit – correlates to our mental abilities, psychological skills, and how we evaluate beliefs and attitudes.

Sitting between our eyes and being physically connected to the brain, pituitary, and pineal glands, this is the mind chakra. It resonates with the energy of our psyche, as well as our conscious and unconscious psychological tendencies.

This is the chakra of intuition, wisdom and our sixth sense. In Eastern philosophies, it is known as our ‘third eye’ and the spiritual centre, which interacts with the rational mind in order to deepen our intuitive insight to see beyond the veil of illusion that is called“Maya.”

When the Third Eye is blocked you:

  • Experience lack of faith in your purpose
  • Feel pointless
  • Are Indecisive
  • Find your work or life insignificant
  • Experience paranoia

Third eye blockages can also trigger a range of troublesome physical symptoms. The most common are:

  • Headaches (including migraines)
  • Eye discomfort
  • Back and leg pain
  • Sinus pain

When your Third Eye is open:

  • You have the ability to form accurate gut feelings
  • You have a sense of the bigger picture in life
  • You meet goals related to your deepest purpose
  • You are able to balance emotion and reason
  • You feel like you are moving forward
  • You use both feelings and logic to make big decisions
  • You trust in your own intuitions
  • You are comfortable knowing you're living your purpose

Some crystals that are helpful in activating and balancing the third eye chakra include: Fluorite, Sodalite, Amethyst, Sapphire and Clear Quartz.

The third eye chakra’s element is light. Sitting out in the sunlight with your third eye facing towards the light for short periods of time can help rejuvenate the third-eye chakra. Yoga poses that assist in healing this chakra are child’s pose, because the forward bend puts pressure on and stimulates the third eye, and eagle pose because it’s a strong balancing pose and requires focus and concentration which helps stimulate the third eye.

Consuming deep blue fruits and vegetables is also an effective way to activate and balance the third eye chakra. Eat blue foods like eggplant, blueberries, blackberries, plums and purple cabbage. Omega 3 rich foods like salmon, sardines and walnuts are great for the third eye as well as they boost brain power.
